FAQs

Q: I’ve heard that some businesses and companies may be reopening May 1. How do I find out what those are?

A: The best way to find out more is to check for daily updates on Governor DeWine’s website at https://governor.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/governor/.

Q: I want to support local with takeout but how do I know if it’s safe?

A: Health experts generally agree that you’re very unlikely to contract the coronavirus from takeout meals, and they underscore that there’s no known risk of transmitting COVID-19 through food. And while restaurant staff members are already well-trained in safe food-handling measures (including handwashing, cleaning procedures, and staying home when sick), it is recommended that you order from restaurants that you trust have good food safety protocols in place. And, always remember to wash your hands before and after handling takeout containers.

Q: I went to a store and saw employees who do not appear to be following safety guidelines. Who can I report this to?

A:  Complaints can be forwarded to Dave Sage, Director of Environmental Health at the Geauga County Health Department, at dsave@geaugacountyhealth.org.

Q: Do I still need to stay 6 feet away from people if I’m wearing a mask?

A:  Yes. According to the CDC, wearing cloth face coverings is an additional public health measure people should take to reduce the spread of COVID-19. CDC still recommends that you stay at least 6 feet away from other people (social distancing), frequent hand cleaning, and other everyday preventive actions. A cloth face covering is not intended to protect the wearer, but it may prevent the spread of the virus from the wearer to others. This would be especially important if someone is infected but does not have symptoms.

Q: I’ve been laid off and can’t pay my bills. Is there any local help?

A: The United Way has a COVID-19 Community Economic Relief Fund. They will help with bills, rent, and food. You can call 440-285-2261. Provide a zip code and you will be given a list of local agencies to provide assistance.
